Hi

Has anyone fitted a pannier rack to a Boardman Road Team Carbon 2017?

https://www.cyclerepublic.com/boardman- ... -2017.html

Halfords didn't have any racks that were wide enough so looking for recommendations. It's for a 6 mikendaily commute.

Cheers

James

How much weight are you planning to carry?

You could opt for a Carradice bag with their SQR system that does away with the need for a rear pannier rack

Pinched this image from another post to give you an idea

The bag in the above is probably on the big side for your needs but Carradice to a range of sizes

Or a Bikepacking bag, of which there are many for about £40. Similar proposition to the Carradice, but doesn't need a rack:

I used to use panniers, but switched to a Carradice saddlebag then a Planet X bikepacking bag. Not as cavernous as panniers, but enough capacity for commuting taking in shirts, sandwiches etc, and easier to remove for the weekend.
If you do really want panniers - my old ones were TorTec, and they were very good.

If you go down the bike packing bag route then check out the Podsacs ones, very cheap but they only have the smaller one in stock at the moment

  • Great thanks all. I'm gonna go down the bike packing route and start with a handlebar bag roll

I've been round the block on this one.

If you are going to have a rack, the tortec velocity is nice and slim, I hang a pair of ortlieb panniers on one when I need to carry a lot. I'm not sure I've ever needed both on a commute though.

I have a podsacs bikepacking type saddlebag from planetx which is great for the money, but if I was buying another I'd probably go for a holster/dry-bag type so I don't have to faff with all the straps etc. to get the thing off to take to your desk.

Most recent build I switched to try a carradice sqr tour, I managed to pick up an older one on a classifieds listing site and I'm liking it a lot. Putting the bag behind you feels more aero and looks less sandalish. I can fit a laptop and some clothes in there which is enough for me and it's easily off and on-able.

I've never done a handlebar bag so will be interested to find out how you get on.

If you want a rack for a road bile- I highly recommend Tubus Fly

very light, steel (so it can be welded if it breaks) narrow and you can get adaptors that worl off QR if your bike doesn't have rack mounts - Monostay for fitting to central brake mount.
    not cheap, but excellent :)
