Roof rack, forwards or backwards?

Hi,
So I have recently started traveling a bit with the bikes and always thought have the bike facing forwards. Reason being to keep the drive train, cassette, etc out of the brunt of the wind and rain. However see a probably more people travelling with the bike facing backwards...? Any particular reason to this other than maybe protecting the bar tape?

It’s so your bike doesn’t get fed up with the constant head wind.0

Doesn't make a blind bit of difference.0

If in doubt, mount it sideways...0

It may be nothing more complicated than how the mounting arm on the rack is arranged.Cube Reaction GTC Pro 29 for the lumpy stuff
Cannondale Synapse alloy with 'guards for the winter roads
Fuji Altamira 2.7 for the summer roads
Trek 830 Mountain Track frame turned into a gravel bike - for anywhere & everywhere0 -

Truth. Forwards because it's more aero that way. ;-)
Meanwhile down here on Oz...

I mount mine forwards but if feasible am considering the other way round as the front end tends to wobble about a fair bit (even with strapping down and trying to chock the front wheel with whatever I can find) when it's taking the brunt of the wind.0

I have wondered the same on facing forward or backwards, I have seen both,. the only advantage for my set up is with my mtb it would be easier to load if I ran it backwards, however after reading this feed I will keep it facing forwards. cheers0
