Avid olives/barbs

When shortening hoses, is it necessary to use avid olives and threaded barbs, or is it okay to use more generic olives and tap in barbs? Avid code and elixir 1.

    Which olives do you refer to?

    Generally the insert can be cut out of the tube and reused. Regarding the olives, avid/sram tend to be aluminium and longer than the brass type (like shimano).

    I have used brass olive with avid/sram but there is a chance the hollow bolt bottoms out, in one or two cases it gets to within a couple of threads.

    Try it, they are cheap enough but do not cut the hose too short in case you need to redo.
