Newish 1x chain suck

Origin 8 narrow wide ring. With a 5701 chain no issues. In a pinch got a 6701 chain due to messing up the old chain off the bike. I had it off to clean the chain and somehow got it tangled in workshop stuff. I tossed old one.

The new 6701 wants to stay on the ring as the larger oval part transitions to the smaller part.

I can try another 5701, but am clueless why it went from working one second to not the next.
