I need a new 10 speed cassette 11-36 and chain.
Do i need to take in to consideration the amount of teeth on the front chainrings?
The bike has a SRAM GX gear set up.
Can i stick any top notch 10 speed cassette on provided it has the correct spndle fixings?

Yes, very much so. The number of teeth on the front ring is all part of your overall gearing. If you have 34t on the front and change it to 30t, then you will have 34/30 = 1.1333 13.3% easier gearing. In other words you will find going up steep hills a bit easier, but on the flat or downhill, you will find that at your normal fast pedal rate, you will be 13.3% slower. You might even spin out.
In addition, the smaller front gear will make your chain a bit loose and more prone to come off on rough ground, maybe a bit more chain clatter on the chain stay.0
