I’ll keep it short and sweet.
Few years ago used to do 70.3, not wonderful times but but around middle of the pack for age group.
Sold the bike (felt AR2) and now I’m looking to get back into. Ironman with a view to finally doing a full 140.6.
Only have the funds for 1 bike, I’d appreciate thoughts on wheather to go aero road or full TT?
Head says good spec second hand road aero. Heart says full TT with di2 but worried all my training will have to be on the tt bike - not sure if that’s a good or bad thing...
TIA (thumbs up)

Buy the best TT bike you can afford and a used entry level road bike to train on?0
-
£300 used thingy will suffice to train on
Just knock that off the budget for the TT bike.0 -
Which IM?0
-
I've done 70.3 and now just cycle.
Aero position will def help on a full bike course - but if it were me, I'd consider getting something road aero and fit some tt bars, unless you're sure that you'll be sticking with the tris long term.0 -
For best performance on the day you'd want the TT bike, but it's not the best for getting the miles in - so I'd go for the road bike and maybe slap some tri bars on it.
Road aero isn't important - its such a marginal gain that you'd never notice from your times.
Save the money on Di2 and put it toward a TT bike in case you get a windfall. PX do them for about a grand.0 -

Possibly Hamburg but will most likely be led by what my wife fancies doing, she’s mentioned lake placid IM as well.
My wife has just completed Copenhagen, she’s a bit obsessed and used a couple of 70.3’s as training.0 -
Thanks guys, didn’t think of getting a cheap roadie for training.
Quite a while back, just as DI2 was being released I had a brief spell with a Fuji D6 but borrowed a felt with di2 for a short period as well and was absolutely sold on it.0
