Wow, fancy doing the bearings on my Mega?

I don't have anything super fancy really and tend to buy non bike brand tools unless it's one of the many proprietary tools I can't get away with not owning (HT2 tool for example). I still like quality though, nowt worse than poor quality tools.
    Current:
    NukeProof Mega FR 2012
    Cube NuRoad 2018
    Previous:
2015 Genesis CdF 10, 2014 Cube Hyde Race, 2012 NS Traffic, 2007 Specialized SX Trail, 2005 Specialized Demo 8

It's very pretty, but how often do you press bearings?

I'm trying to think when was the last time I did press a bearing...

My Park Tool scissors were highly uneccessary.

It does mean they don't get knicked for other things though...
We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

  • Mostly middling quality stuff in my tool bag but I have got a set of Bondhus GoldGuard allen keys (~£30 a set) as I was sick of cheap keys either knackering bolts or developing rounded ends. I've also got a few Knipex pliers (~£30-£40 each) for their quality and design.

I would like to get a top quality pair of cable cutters that can do a good clean job of cutting cable outers and I fancy a digital tape measure for better accuracy setting up the bikes.

Bottom brackets regularly, Zipp wheels far too regularly.

Prob used less than once a month and each time is a pleasure :)

Not many of my tools are ridiculously expensive, but I try to buy reasonable quality. A CK ratchet handle i have is a thing of joy. When it started slipping I had to call the US for a repair kit. They sent me 6 minor repair kits and a complete rebuild kit free of charge. It took 20 years to use one kit so it has another 90 years to go.
Going to buy a Japanese pull saw because I can now I have a good excuse. Making a bamboo bicycle frame so it is bike related.

Nothing expensive yet in the bike toolbox. Just treated myself to a Bahco socket set for work on cars. That is a lovely thing compared with the cheap n cheerful sloppy, rattly collection I've made do with for the last 37 years.

I am similarly going to invest in some Wera screwdrivers and hex + torx keys. I think I'm attracted by the colours...

Park Pizza cutter and the Campag cork screw. I can’t see myself using any other tools.

Ah those saws can be very nice. Really fine finish to the wood after you’ve cut.

Vino, did you order this from Wheels Mfg's e-commerce site that they link to? Did you get rogered for import tax?

I'm looking at the press and assortment of hub drifts, but am aware that $100 could quickly inflate once taxes are added.

Many years ago, Clarence St Cyclery in Sydney had a Campagnolo Toolchest in their display cabinet. It sat there on sale for more than a decade: when I first saw it I thought the price was over the top, but the same price a dozen years later didn't seem quite so high. I had some spare cash about 20 years ago, so I made them a lowball offer for it, and somewhat to my surprise they accepted. In terms of the amount of use I make of it, I couldn't possibly justify the purchase, even though it's seen a fair amount of use over the years. I bought some additional cutters for it so that I can also face 1-1/8" headtubes and IS42/52 bearing seats.

I bought mine from a lbs. I think if you ring sigmasport they can post one to you though mine was more like £300 than $100

  • Normally that bearing press set would walk off with the award, but that Campag Toolchest is absolutely outrageous.

Nothing in my armoury comes even remotely close. Personal favourite is probably a few custom presses (for various headsets and BBs) formed from bolts and laser cut stainless steel washers.

nicely done, much the better and cheaper way to get the same kit as the large press kit.

Ive got the press 7 too and now im looking for some half inch bar compatible drifts at a reasonable price so i can use it on wheel hubs when im doing events.

Really i only need the 6803 drifts to sort the crapola bearings in zipp wheels and freehub bodies. Ive found the bottom bracket drifts that come with it to be great though and use it more than the big press........

the new extractor kit for press 7 is cracking but its 25% more in Sterling than it is in Dollars. £125! i think ill pass and stick with the hammer

Nice stuff and no point having stuff without a use for it. The Wera stuff is nice, I’ve got a short torx set from them, quality stuff.

Use in the place of a chain whip to hold a cassette. I’ve just bought one but haven’t used it yet.
