Summer gloves

After years of road riding, I've started exploring the local bridleways and gravel tracks recently. Nothing remotely technical (I live in East Anglia) but I'm pretty lacking in the skill department and that gravel looks sharp... so I was thinking of a pair of gloves. I don't normally wear them till it's much cooler (it's 25 to 30 degrees C on my rides right now), so does anyone have advice? I'd like something that'd protect my hands if it comes to that, but is nice and breathable and basically otherwise like it's not there...

Go for the Specialized BG (stands for Body Geometry) finger-less glove. It keeps you cool, allows use of mobiles, and other things that you need fingers and fingernails for. Most importantly, it has padding on the heel of the palm that will protect you when you fall off onto the gravel. The padding will stop you getting nasty gouges on the heel of the palm. This is a personal thing, but I don't like padding across the base of the fingers. So I remove it using a craft knife to unpick the stitching and tweezers to pull out the gel bar. This preference is something that took years to develop.

But if you ride in the woods along with loads of nettles and brambles, you may need full fingered gloves. In which case I go for the "Specialized Body Geometry Ridge" glove. These are lightweight, breathable, provide nettle protection and don't have an excess of padding except where it is needed. Brilliant! But only for when it's warm.

I wear Endura Hummvee Lite full finger gloves if it's warm.
Thin palms with no padding and the backs are breathable.
I came off at FoD last year wearing fingerless mitts and ripped a flap of skin off the end off my little finger when I hit the gravely ground. That hurt more than the broken bones in my hand. I don't wear mitts anymore.“Life has been unfaithful

I've ridden in many places and never felt the need for long fingered gloves ad protection against anything other than the cold in autumn and winter.
I always wear gloves to protect against gravel rsh should I ever come off, cause when that happens, it is usual to stick harms out, palms first.
..
Any lycra backed fingerless mitts will be fine.

I ride off-piste in the woods and the nettles and brambles are a serious hazard. I have to carry a large folding knife to clear them out of the way or there would be no trail much after early May. I would rather wear finger-less mitts, but long fingered gloves are essential where I ride. Even with all the clearing plus the arm and leg guards, my lower arms and lower legs are a network of scratches.0 -
Thanks for your replies! I've gone for Louis Garneau Creek gloves, which fit nicely and are discounted at Evans right now: https://www.evanscycles.com/louis-garne ... s-EV1839140
