Advice Please! Carbon Road Bike c.£1500

I'm looking to snap up a carbon road bike in the summer sales. I've just sold my Cannondale CAAD (quite an old one) and looking to upgrade. Bike will be used for commuting, weekend rides, and a bit of racing, so looking for high performance but not totally aero to give a bit of comfort. I'll probably upgrade the wheels on whatever bike I buy so not too worried about that.
Budget more than £1k, less than £2k, but in the sale will hopefully be able to get something that is worth a bit more. Carbon frame essential, interested in disc brakes (depending on the weight).
Any suggestions (including anything to avoid!) would be much appreciated. Thanks

Thats a bit of jack of all trades bike isnt it ? Why not get a cheaper commuter bike with guards and fatter tyres and then get a weekend and racing bike as well ?
Its all going to be a bit of a compromise ?0 -
See, I use my Synapse for cycling to work and weekend rides, and the occasional multi day ride staying in a hotel overnight. But I don’t think I’d ever use it for say the bike leg of an IM race. I’d use my Ridley Noah Fast with some clip on aero bars, equally I would never do a multi day ride on it and very rarely commute on that, only say on a Friday when I might knock off early and put a longer ride in on the way home. Being a bit more aero means for me it’s nowhere near as comfortable as my Synapse with different geometry and 28mm tyres. Horses for courses and all that.0

Sorry for confusion. I do have a commuter bike which I'll continue to use the majority of the time so looking for performance end of the spectrum, but having sold my CAAD looking for a noticeable upgrade with a carbon frame. Have been looking at BMC Teammachine as a potential but thought I'd put it to the people and see what people recommended/a good value option. Cheers0

BTwin Ultra 900?
Just got a very positive review here:

If you can stretch to £2000 you can get the same frame with full Ultegra 8000 and Mavic Cosmic Carbon Wheels.0 -
Would you consider second hand?
As a for instance this is available in the classifieds if the size is right

CAAD 12 - for the money you are looking at spending you'll get a far better bike (frame, groupset, wheels, finishing kit) than you will get for a mid range carbon bike.
It'll also do everything you want it to do far better.
It will probably also be lighter.
Carbon isn't always an upgrade when it comes to modern Ali bikes.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

Fair do's but you'll get CAAD cheaper and it's a better frameset and it's dead easy to get a dirt light CAAD whereas that genesis is probably as light as it will get.
CAAD still winning it.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

Given that it fails the first criteria set by the OP - how can it possibly be winning it ?0 -
Merida Scultura with Ultegra. Comfortable but capable of racing on.
Merida Reacto, not so comfortable but good for racing, TTs, Triathlons.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0 -

You know it makes sense. Giant are not trendy or cool but the bikes are superb. In my chain gang no one has a TCR so pretty exclusive too! People avoid them as they don't want to be seen riding one but bang for buck probably the best race bike there is.0 -
