Funny how the team that won the team prize came so far down the prize money list...

Scott and DD have got to be disappointed with that. Not that the money probably makes much difference in the grand scheme of things but it relfects what sort of 3 weeks they've had.

Taking the best performing wildcard team as a benchmark for reasonable performance (Wanty-Groupe Gobert), there's more than a few teams that'll be disappointed. Finishing below Cofidis says everything about DD, Scott and EFDC.

Quickstep and Lotto-Jumbo amongst the over-performers?

In an interview with Brailsford he said Lotto Jumbo have changed their approach to a lot of things but specifically sports science side in recent years and it is starting to pay dividends now.

Four stages and the spotty jersey for QS, plus a few GC euros for Jungels. Very good tour for them, though not sure a generally stage-hunting team packed full of talent have overperformed. Probably most remarkable is getting a decentish GC position for Jungels without ever really backing him up.

EF must have blown far more than that on their after party. It looked like they were going to have a wild time, they seemed in full swing before the Sunweb and Sky buses had even left. I’m guessing Craddock was fashionably late!

It would be interesting to see the prize money in relation to what ASO makes from the tour........

For the biggest annual sporting event, Euros726,000 is pretty small fry, compared to the major sports. Which tells you were cycling is, and why the financial model needs to change - but won't.

To be honest, I'm not surprised EF-Cannondale had struggles last year with sponsors; they are pretty anonymous, and rarely win. Just why would anybody sponsor them? And they're not the only team like that.....

Uran came second last year and Taylor Phinney has a Twitter account.

Simple (?) comparison with tennis. From wimbledon.com:

"The All England Club will award a total of £34m in prize money to competitors at The Championships, 2018. The Gentlemen's and Ladies' Singles Champions will each receive £2.25m."

But Wimbeldon get to sell tickets as well as the TV rights. hey will take a cut of food and drink sold, merchandise which is a lot easier to sell with people concentrated in one area.

Cycling races need to pay for hotels, transport for officials etc that a static event dent need to. They must need about 300 rooms a night for 24 days even with bulk rates that's going to be over half a million.

    The big come down...

I used to feel like this on Monday mornings during the 90's after a weekend of clubbing with friends. Back then I would only have to wait until the following Friday to feel better again, now I have to wait a whole year.

I always feel sad when the Tour is over. Watching almost every stage live I feel like I have suffered along with them with every pedal stroke and been involved in a real-life drama unfolding before my very eyes. Having said that I didn't find this year's Tour very exciting for the most part. A couple of hard-fought stages which decided GC and all the other jerseys pretty much won with very little effective competition.

5 out of 10 which includes an extra point for GT winning.

sunweb 2nd? one stage ~(gifted by accident) and a podium.

Even better, this Wednesday, we have the all singing and dancing Volta! :D
Now this is a real, old fashioned bike race. The longest race on the calendar after the GTs.
Extended coverage, (3 hours live) this year, too, from 3pm.

    Free to watch, too.

At least he'll bring it home, whereas Uran'll probably leave it halfway up a mountain.

Lawson Craddock's velodome fundraiser would be in third place on the prize money list.

Thomas is the first winner to not have a bib number ending in 1 since Alberto Contador in 2007.

He's also worn the Yellow Jersey for 1 more day than Bradley Wiggins

Yeah, been waiting for these hard nuts to roll on out. Dot watching gets addictive. I see Hayden and Lenhard are up front and on it.

Been following TCR past several years. Remain boggled by what these people do. Serious respect.
