If you didn't see the bus approach the ASL, you can't know if it was legal or not. If the lights change while the bus is already there, it is legal.
Forward facing camera may have picked it up. If the bus was in the wrong and it was on the video then presumably they've also sent the bus driver a FPN.
£50 for getting a taxi driver and bus driver some hassle for doing something wrong seems like good value

If you have done something wrong, don't get hung up about it, take heed of what they say and don't do it again.

So i just rewatched the longer version of the clip.

The ASL I crossed was right at the start of the video, without the context. There was a bus in the bike box, I went round the bus and waited in front of it, about 1m in front of the white line, and waited there for around 30s before the lights changed.

Unless I have missed something, surely you just submit a longer clip with the context? It becomes unambiguous then. Presumably the video wasn't started at the exact moment you crossed the line on red?

The moral of the story (or at least one of them) is to cut the evidence to a minimum!

with the latest legal changes, cycles can now cross a solid white line to enter the cycle box.

That’s interesting, I read that this was under discussion. Can you quote an authoritative source please.

    Thanks.

The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016
17.25 The definition of an advanced stop line has been changed to allow cyclists to cross the first stop line at any point along its length. A new variant is also prescribed in diagram 1001.2B that omits the lead-in lane or gate completely. Advanced stop lines can also be provided at signalised stand-alone crossings

    SCHEDULE 14 > PART 1 > Paragraph 30
    (2) Where the road marking provided for at item 48, 49 or 50 of the sign table in Part 2 has been placed, “stop line” means—
(a)unless (b) applies, the first stop line; or
      (b)in the case of—
        (i)a pedal cycle; or
(ii)a vehicle which has proceeded beyond the first stop line,

Yeh, could have accidentally stitched myself up here. You're meant to include 2min before and after the incident (RLJ Taxi). 2 min before was me stopped waiting at a red light so thought that was a good point to start, but being ahead of the asl here may have created the problem.

So share the rest with them!

The key is necessity, was it unreasonable for you to know the cycle box could be occupied, and then finding it was was the most reasonable (safe) action to cross the stop line to put yourself in a safer place. If the answer to BOTH is yes then you have the makings of a defence, if either was no, then IMO you don't.

So that's the one. Waiting at red, went when the lights were changing, technically in front of the ASL when it was still red (just). £50 fine. Just going to pay it. Bloody annoying though.

Get a 404 error, but that is really harsh. Certainly likely to put people off reporting really dangerous things if they're concerned they're going to implicate themselves, and that's a shame.

ah dam. was working. will try something else.

but yes, technically i went over the line 0.005s before it went green, having waited for 30 seconds behind the line. I guess that technically is illegal, but something which 90% of riders will do every day.

Asked them for an update on the cab driver who went through the light and got nothing back, which is also annoying.
