Hello
Going BPW Sat and thought I'd give her a once over - front wheel bearings dont have long left :(
Anyone else replaced them?
I popped the black caps off, but the shaft (alloy) that goes through the middle is stuck solid. It's a 2015 and assume the first time its been apart. Didnt want to force it and potentially ruin Sat, so I popped the rubber seal and repacked with grease (was pretty dry inside) and put back together.
Have ordered new bearings (18307 LBLU) with the view to replacing next week, prepared to ruin old bearings removing them but the shaft looks like a no starter.

On some hubs the axle is stepped as it acts as the internal spacer on the bearings, so you knock the axle out with one of the bearings, don’t know if your hub is like that for certain though.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Cheers Rookie, that would make sense to get equal axle sticking out each side!

A bike shop can do that for about £15 (exc cost of bearings). I've just had a quote to have mine done.

I can't say for sure how yours would be removed etc as you do sometimes need specialist tools and sometimes you can go ghetto. Just go gentle.

BPW is not a place where you want a wobbly wheel!

Bike was fine last night, there is no play when fitted, but want to replace soon.
Will remove rotor and soak in home brew penetrating oil ;)

WTB ST i23 is the rim.
Does the hub have any make/model markings on it? If so you can do a Google search for bearings replacement for it.

It's a standard Whyte hub, and definitely got the right bearings en route as took the part number off seal before I repacked.
Was looking for tips on replacement.

I'd still suggest going to your LBS as most bearings can require specific tools etc and IMO it's not worth getting it wrong for £15.

    Hope BPW was good.

Leisure lakes have quoted me £20 labour if I supply bearings, which are on the way. Will ask them to put in extra anti seize so I can do next time :D

    Sorted, as new again now!

5 pound labour at Russels Walsall :) Just under 15 in total, happy days!
