Buying bike lock

I have just bought a second hand MTB which I use to pop to the shops and a little bit of leisure cycling,it's a Trek 4500 in immaculate condition it replaces my old Trek that was falling to pieces.
It has occurred to me that it would be sensible to get a decent lock for the bike as it is quite eye catching and looks new, could anyone advise to a suitable lock to purchase that won't break the bank too much but offers decent protection,my bike won't ever be left for more than half an hour, although I know bike locks can be cut in seconds,I have been looking at a Kryptonite New yorker, any suggestions greatly appreciated.
I had also been looking at the Kryptonite New York FAHGETTABOUDIT but it seems that the shackle is possibly too small to lock to a lot of objects, any thoughts on that greatly appreciated too
