I am just getting into biking and am in the market to get a an endurance bike. I was looking at the 2018 Giant Contend SL 1 disc https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/contend-sl-1-disc. I went to my local bike shop and they had a 2016 Giant Defy for sale https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/defy-1-disc-2016 . Contend is at $1430 and the Defy is priced at $1200. Which one should I get?

Thanks

As I understand it the Contend is now the alu version of the Defy now that the Defy has gone carbon. Without looking at the geo they are both endurance bikes and both have 105 group sets so I would save $230 and buy the 2016 Defy. I like the colour better too!

I also dont like the silly junction box thing for the brakes on the Contend.

For me i'd come down to the brakes. I would happily pay $230 for hydro over mechanical discs. However, I am aware the Contend doesn't have full hydro brakes. I have never used those types of brakes or read any reviews to tell you if they are worth it. Can you test ride both?

Can't everyone stop asking the imposssible... do what you are supposed when you are new to cycling or get back into it after a lengthy layoff...
    buy a mistake
then get rid when you get switched onto how things work again.
All done it, well I did.
