New race bike

Hi all, I'm sure there are many answers to this question out there but I'm looking for a new race bike, mainly for circuit races. I have a budget of approx £1500 - £2000, should I go cheap and cheerful from Planet X/Ribble, should I hang out for a Specialized Tarmac in a sales somewhere (hard to find), or even go for second hand? What would YOU do?!
Cannondale Supersix 105 2013- summer bike - love it!
Cannondale CAAD12 - racing fun!
Trek Crockett 5 - CX bike, muddy fun!
Scott Scale 940 MTB XC racer.

I'd post in 'road buying advice'..0 -
For crit racing? I'd bear in mind you might crash it now and then.
Personally, with that budget, I'd look for a great second-hand deal that might get you a great set of racing wheels and smooth groupset.0 -

Agree with either a CAAD or a bowman palace.0

You can also spend many more $$$ if it needs a new chain, cassette, rings, pads, cables, or has been raced as crashed and mneeds mech hanger, mech etc etc.

More expensive than the CAAD or Bowman but I like the way they look...0 -

Not as good as either and not as good looking.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

Yeah, they have some really lairy colour schemes. There was one with zebra print forks last year.
Thing is by the time you've forked out for the frameset and built it up you could have a decent carbon frame. The built up Sprints come in at a pretty competitive price.0 -

caad 12 bargains to be had on ebay at the mo. get second hand and spend the rest on a power meter or training camp.
the 12 is a better bike than the Evo btw. The high mod is a different matter (but seriously expensive)0 -

This is the zebra print one built up:
Another couple of red Hook Crit special editions:
This was actually available in the UK for a while:
Finally one of the actual Red Hook Crit special bikes (probably a bit much for most people!):
Clearly an alu aero crit bike isn't going to be to everyone's tastes, but I think they look quite good, a bit different to most others, and the standard builds are available for reasonable money. You couldn't get a decent carbon aero road bike for anything like that much. Apparently the aero performance is about the same as the original Venge.0 -
Thank you very much indeed - those Red Hook ones are soooo cool!
Hmmmm - it won’t be the aero frameset I was looking for but would replace the Soloist - and cheap as well. Different enough from current ali crit bike though?
Any idea where to find plain black frame Sets?Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

There was this one available for a while https://www.specializedconceptstore.co. ... d-edition/ , probably the closest to all black, if you shop around there might still be one or two. Might have to wait for the 2019 ones to come out as the 2018 ones seem to be sold out.
They bring out Red Hook specials in limited runs, you need to keep an eye on the Specialized website for them. Only thing that puts me off is it's £1300 for the frames but you can still find fully built up 2017 ones for less than that (stock colours then were anodised green or orange).0 -
red Hook paintjob
Deda Zero matt black bars and stem
black seat and tape
big phat deep rim carbon tubulars
Force groupset
phhhhwwwwwwwwwwoooooaaaaaarrrrrrrr
agree the price is a tad salty though.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am
