Hi Guys,
I need to replace the tubeless on my Giant PR2 wheels and I am unsure as to whether i need the 21mm or 25mm.
I can't find the wheel specs anywhere online. One video I saw showed the internal width to be just under 14mm which I somehow think is incorrect.
Giant Rim tape sizes IIRC correctly start at 26mm!!!
Any suggestions would be welcome and please note that I am considering the Tesa Rim Tape which comes in 21 and 25 mm.
Thanks

14mm internal width, wtf are your wheels from the dark ages?
17mm tape is what you need.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0 -
you may even struggle to fit tubeless to 14mm internal, as the valve takes up some space, then you need to fit the tyre bead (x2) either side.
I've done this on a mate's wheel with narrow rims and it only just fitted.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
These wheels are from the Giant Advanced TCR2 2018 model.
I spoke to someone briefly at a giant store today and he suggested Giant's own tape which is 24mm!!!
I have tried a Maxxis Padrone 25mm tubeless and that fitted the rim. I was able to inflate it but it leaked at the valve. So I got a Giant valve instead. It was at this point I thought start again.
So........ do you think 17mm is the way forward,,? I very much doubt it.
I can't locate my calipers but a steel ruler puts it at around 19mm internally.0 -
If I recall correctly they wheels I converted were 19 mm internal and I found the 'shopping' to be the hardest part of going tubeless.
I tried two different brands of valve and neither would seal. I also found orange seal rim tape had a tendency to split due to high pressure.
Then I bought some Schwalbe 23mm rim tape and Schwalbe valves and they have been perfect ever since.
It might seem odd to use wider tape than the internal bead width but you pull the tape tight when applying it and the extra width goes down into the the area where the spoke pockets are.0 -
Update - I had to change the valve to Giant's own valve. I used Tesa 25mm rim tape, used silicon spray around the rim and inside of the tyre and then slipped the tyre on. It inflated immediately and stayed like that for 24 hours. I then inserted Orange sealant and voila!!!0
