Some excellent chat about the castle in Fougeres to start off with. Looks a very pretty little town as well

    Mmmm pancake-sausage :D

Question - do the Dennis Mentchikoffs fall over if you roll them uphill?

We have a no man break of the day.

    Nice stage design, Mr P.

    Only 223km to go....

Doesn't look like he is going to ride very hard - the peloton is going to have to work really hard to keep him out there.

There's not even any french teams that are bothered about getting away. This is desperate

At least there's a 4th category climb that he can help himself to the points for

Another 100km before that...... could be 4 hours away.

There seems to be a stand off between Degand and the bunch, gap now decreasing to 47', almost as if he doesn't want to be there?

    Suddenly, the race explodes.
Still 215 kms to go, though...

The carpetbottom man with a spectacular prediction success in yesterday's Lanterne post:
It might be worth watching the first five minutes though, just to see if the peloton pull the amusing - if cruel - trick of letting one rider pop off the front and then refusing to send anyone else up to join him in the breakaway.

Group of about 9 away - some decent riders, if they ride, this might stick.

Lampert, Gallopin, Postlberger, Vermote, Vichot, De Gendt, Naesen, Gerrans in the break now trying to snap the elastic

    Yellow Lotto chasing
  • That’s not a bad break if they can make it stick.

Sounds like Gerrans has taken his seat in the passenger carriage. Colour me surprised

Yellow Lotto really didn't fancy riding on the front all day as the only sprint team without someone in the break, did they?

    They clearly did not.

Break caught, peloton fun day continues

According to the official site, Edet is the only local lad today. In 2017 he was a Soupe replacement.

Offredo doesn't fancy his chances of being able to see the road furniture properly over 200km in the bunch, so says "sod it, I'll ride".

    Nobody else is bothered.

36.5 km covered in one hour. It's going to be a long day.

    WHY. AM. I. HERE?*
