I'm looking at

- Syntace P6 (v. nice but £££)
- Niner RDO (similar visually to the P6 but a tad cheaper)

Any others?

Must be:
- 31.6
- inline
- and I'm after one that's quite soft, as it's going on a (hate to say this...) gravel-type bike
- doesn't have to be carbon but it's the obvious choice
- I also prefer a 'cradle' design (think P6, Thomson et al) as the saddle has carbon rails

Just buy s Thomson - I'd be absolutely amazed if there is any noticeable difference with an inline post.

If I was to hit you round the head with a selection of carbon seatposts - would you be able to tell me which one was 'soft'..?

I might be close with the first few but then I suspect I'd struggle.

These are fantastic value and the excellent finish is better than some of the big brands. Highly recommended:

I've got one one my Scott CR1. Night and day difference between this and the previous carbon and alu posts I had before, much more compliance.
