Rear Brake Rub

Hey all,

I just upgraded the entire drive train, cables and brakes on an 01 litespeed. Running well save some brake rub on my rear brake. This only occurs when the handle bar is turned to the left (extreme left). Is this normal or something I need to sort through? Nothing is snagging the cable and the housings seem to be an appropriate length. Any advice? Thanks!

I am far from an expert but you may want to review that - I take it this is caused by the calipers closing when the handlebar is turned? If so, I can't really see it being anything other than the length of the cable . . . but, as I say, I'm no expert.

Is the rear brake operated by the left or right lever? Was the cable outer at the bars inserted fully into the shifter before securing / taping? Did you clamp then yank the inner wire to remove any slack and bed things in before the final adjustment as per eg the standard Shimano instructions?

Presumably all the cables are external where you can see / get at them?

Does the rear brake operate as it should apart from this? Can you just ignore it and try not to turn sharp left from speed?

I'm trying to imagine how turning the bars fully to the left could effectively shorten the inner or lengthen the outer so as to close the caliper.

I've only ever had problems with rear brakes on small frames where the seat-tube cluster is close to the caliper and the length of outer is really critical. Too long and the brake caliper won't self centre after braking, and too short and the caliper arm actually bends under braking
