Has anyone used the clear Gorilla tape for frame protection?
Thinking of using it along the top tube, top/bottom of down tube and chain stays.

What's the reason for not using the stuff designed specifically for the purpose, namely helicopter tape..
That tape is quite thick to cushion impact from debris , transparent and not super strong glue meaning it does not pull paint or decals off when removed.
...what is gorilla tape recommended for?0 -
There is no way I would use Gorilla tape for frame protection.0

Thanks all.
Haven't used it but was wondering if anyone had - no harm in asking.
Will sort out some Heli tape instead._______________

Is that just a sturdier sellotape ?0

I have no idea if it is sturdier, but it sure as hell is stickier. Once properly on and left for a while, if you ever need to remove it, I reckon it might pull your paint off the frame!0 -
So I ordered some gloss Heli-Tape last week.
An got round to making a start on it by measuring and cutting the Heli-Tape over the weekend.
Started to fit some of it this evening.
First couple of pieces going on with plenty of water and smoothing with credit card.
Might try hair dryer tomorrow to see if that makes it any easier.
Not bad for a first attempt, might try some thinner tale next time too - this one is quite thick._______________

Hmm interesting, the stuff I use and seen is sel adhesive, no need for water.0
-
This is self adhesive - the water/shampoo mix just means you can get all the air our easier and move it around a bit to get it in position.

I agree that using water helps to apply large pieces as it stops the grab and allows the tape to be moved around. The use of a hairdryer is ESSENTIAL for forming the tape around the hydraformed sections of your frame.
I have a two-page guide to applying helicopter tape. It was written by me with the assistance several other members of the MBR Forum. Send me a private message with your email address and I will send you a file copy. It is free and without advertising or any strings of any kind.0 -
Had a read through Steve's guide - very helpful.
Had a go at the seat stays earlier - had to do a bit of a trim and get the hair dryer out to get it to form to the curves.
