Bottle cages high or low?

My Arundel bottle cages have two sets of holes, and on my new frame there is room to mount them in the slightly higher or slightly lower positions. It doesn't make any difference to accessibility. When they are both low, the bottoms of the two bottles are almost but not quite touching. When they are both high the bottles are slightly higher on the frame and slightly more separated.

This has to be an aero call - I'm going to assume that if the bottles are lower and closer together the air will flow over them more cleanly. Is that likely to be correct?

Lower for marginal aero and lower mass, higher for convenience

I read it is more aero to have bottle on seat tube only.
The Wife complained for months about the empty pot of bike oil on the hall stand; so I replaced it with a full one.

Position could make the difference to have clearance for a tall bottle with larger capacity, such as the 1.25l ex-squash bottle I'm using in this heatwave, replacing one of my 750ml bottles.

Surely the point of having a bottle is to be able to reach it... if aero is the concert, then get some sort of camel thing or put them behind your bum

If it's too high, you might drop the bottle while you get it out or put it back in, especially if it's a 750 bottle

    This---^

Put them low so you can fit 1 litre bottles in them!
