Hi

I am interested in a new commuter/weekend bike .. I would like the bike to have the following

1 .. Aluminium /Carbon ( Honestly believe Aluminium is better for commuting because of increased probability of crash)
2 thru axle
3 eyelets for full mudguards
4 Can take up 32mm tyre
5 Hydraulics brakes
6 Lightweight up to 10kg
7 single front chainset (optional)
8 more than 2 bottle cages ( optional)

My budget up to 2k but happy to spend less

many thanks

I have seen this one BMC roadmachine x https://www.bmc-switzerland.com/int-en/roadmachine-x/
and also the Diverge ( but the brakes are mechanical)

Is this the best time to make a purchase or should I wait for the sales period

For less than half your budget the PX London Road is worth a look. Has all your requirements except the thru axles

I really like the look of the Tiagra roadmachine, if you are a BC member and can find a worthless bike to trade in you can get one at the moment for £1800.

    I'm tempted myself.

    Edit - it's 105 not tiagra, I'm even more tempted now. :?

For less than half the price without thru axles:

    https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/ ... 5cm-frames

A wheel upgrade such as Hunt 4 seasons with 32mm slick tyres running tubeless (Such as Hutchinson Sector 32's) will lose at least a kilo, if not a kilo and a half which will bring the bike well under your weight specification.

That boardman is good value, I'm trying to build something similar up based on a used caadx and it's giving me cause for concern in the costing stakes particularly after usual BC/voucher etc. halfords purchase tricks.

Might be worth a look at the Genesis Skyline and Tour de Fer ranges.

Just under £2k for 105/hydro set up.

Eta: you can customise gearing and wheel options on the product web page

I had one a couple of tears back and it was certainly QR front and rear then. It's possible PX may have updated things in the interim to thru axle design but I can't see it mentioned anywhere. Easiest just to call their sales/tech guys (if you can find a contact number) or message them on Facebook or Twitter

I have the Boardman that is linked above. It’s an absolutely brilliant bike for the money. I’ve done as suggested above also and have added a set of Hunt x Mason 4 season wheels along with a set of Wiggles own brand LifeLine Prime 28’s. It rides the same as a normal road bike but stops a lot more efficiently due to the discs. It’s a great all round bike.

There’s also their carbon version which has full force cx1 groupset, thru axles etc etc for £2k.

    There’s also a blingy Vitus for £1400

And Canyon have released an aluminium Inflite too but I’m not sure if it takes guards/racks.

I have a Domane disc with through axles and the Boardman with QR and I can’t tell any difference at all. Both run 30 tyres. The Boardman is now in short supply so you may have trouble getting one. The smallest has a 54 top tube.
