I am getting into road cycling a bit more so I have decided to spend some money on a better bike. My budget is £800. I would like at least a Sora groupset (or equivalent) and to be below 11kg but apart from that, I'm open to what everybody thinks. Thanks. :D

Always gets good reviews. Partial 105,11 speed groupset and under 10kg. Plenty of decathlon stores around to try it for size.
  • I have seen the 540 but I have read that the brakes are not that good unfortunately

Check the Evans site. Lots of bikes in your price range. They will get them in to store for you. May have to pay £50 but it is refunded if you don’t want the bike.
  • Thanks very much. I've had a small look but ill look in more depth. Thanks for the help.

an 8, 9 or 10 will come in on budget and are top value, the 10 being brilliant value.

Have a look on paulscycles website. Nothing wrong with decathlon bike, just change the pads to improve the brakes as standard pads are not brilliant the same as most rim braked budget bikes. See the first dozen or so bikes as under budget.

Thanks. Ill have a look into this option as it seems good value for a 105

This is a very competent bike, ( I’m biased ‘cos I have one ) and if you’re happy with Sora, spend 130 odd quid on some Mavic Aksum wheels, and you’ve got yourself a cracking package. Although if you’re spending extra on the wheels, you’d be better off with the 540 quoted above.

Slight curveball but how about this for a super versatile bike?

£720 with British Cycling discount which is enough left over to get some slick 28mm tyres for the roads and you can keep the knobbly ones for off road adventures. Move quick though as there aren't many left.
