Looking to upgrade my chainset in the coming weeks.

Before I do though, my feet/ shoes seem to rub on both sides of crank and chainset's end up looking a right mess.

Do people use spacers between pedals/ crank arms to avoid this? If so can you point me in their direction please.

Ta.

It's not uncommon to need to space out the cranks to stop rub or to ensure equal distance from the stays.

What BB do you have/plan on getting, Dinyull?

    As helpful as ever.

Still, good to see you're still here. I thought you'd be on a mobility scooter by now :P

    Snipped bolloxy waffle...

At least I can still read and comprehend.

    No one spaces out pedals.

It's BB30, but plan on getting an adaptor to fit Ultegra Hollotech II.

Also have another bike with 105 chainset with standard threaded hollowtech BB with same problem.

Feet rub on crank arms, especially if you have big feet. You can get wraps to protect the arms, if you feel it's worth it.

You don't space the cranks to save the chainstays, you space them to get the correct chainline.

You can get pedals with longer axles.

Ah, touche. Sorry, I'm still in a state of shock over that Frank Wilson bloke.

You do space out the cranks arms for equal distance from the stays though, but that's moot here since I read ahead of myself. Won't happen again ;)

...but yeah, crank wraps. I bought some for an old set of Saint cranks that had seen a hard life.

Not sure if you'll find your model here but gives you an idea of what to Google:

Some people have used 2 or 3 pedal washers to give a tiny bit more heel clearance.

Some combinations of pedals and cranks actually require a washer to protect the cranks

Google for pedal washers and you'll find them

Luckily I don't get heel rub and I don't have any fancy carbon cranks, so I know all the pedal axle thread is in the crank.

Pedal washers (but not more than a couple on each side or you lose too much thread in the crank)
Other option is long axle pedals- I know the Dura Ace ones have an extended option. I use a pair when I have my winter boots on so my feet clear the cranks.

Move the cleats inwards on the shoes so the shoes are further out, that will get you a few mm more clearance for your shoes.

Also, as soon as you get the new chainset, get some good copter tape and put it on the arms, the arms should then stay looking like new. https://www.biketart.com/accessories-c5/bike-protection-c13/biketape-c124/biketape-invisible-bike-frame-protection-p5

You say you are looking to change your chainset? Some cranks are shaped in such a way that that they exagerate any rub (some FSA ones certainly). Look for something with straighter/flatter crank arms. Also I think the R8000 shimano pedals now come with 2 different axle lengths.
