OK so I am confused as hell, so decided to ring BC and just ask them. They said member to member claim is not valid in race or organised event, however a club, social ride is covered. The person at fault would have to report the incident and it claims would only happen in the case of negligence however does not guarantee anything. Once reported they would refer to there insurer and anyone wanting to make a claim has to chase this on there own with the insurer, getting there details via BC or the party at fault.

I did think you could as I know a couple of club mates that were in a bad accident clearly caused by 1 person and I know his bike was replaced via BC cover.

I'm so glad I got bike insurance of my own :-)

Pleasure was getting worried you guys were going to take each other off the road :D

Claim is progressing nicely they decided to cash settle (what I wanted), the figure is full invoice - excess (can't say fairer then that), the delay is the amount is over there usual no special approval needed, so been sent off to a person with higher powers to sign off. Fingers crossed.

Great news cyclelane insurance underwritten davies-group have agreed to cash settlement for full value minus the excess, money is on its way. They mentioned salvage company will be contacting me to collect the bike.

Query I have is can I swap out any good parts on the bike?

    Did you insure specifying components?
I'd not be wasting on here , I'd swapping out everything salvageable I could for rat bits. Honestly, what % of the general population could make out the difference between top end Dura Ace and some battle worn Tiagra 4600?

No just model of bike. Surely they would expect it to come with what the bike originally came with, FYI the bike was 5 days old on day of incident.

    It's been written off.
My point being if the 'salvage' person looked at the bike and you mentioned that that particular derailleur cage was actually carbon fibre and he replied 'fark off mate , you avin a laff, its a pedal bike, not a space ship'.. will you raise a smile?

Very briefly mention ‘our salvage company Velo’ now this makes me believe it’s a company that either does crash repair for resale or salvages the good bits for sale, hence worried that insurance comes back to me, where the di2 and carbon deep rims gone sir???

Also claiming on insurance means everyone else pays. It certainly not free.

I wouldn't claim on someone else insurance. I'd take it on the chin. You may have already literally.

I think the general rule is don't ride what you can't afford to replace.

The reason is riding in a group means by definition your riding to close to the rider in front and to the side of you. Therefore any claim is moot. In a group you take responsibility for the others on the group and they look after everybody else's on the understanding that accidents do happen and if they do the damage done is picked up by the owner and blame is not aportioned. I certainly would not want to ride with anyone in a group that did not think like.

I'm sending my bike to pedalcover today - they want it back before they process the payment for a new one which is fair enough. My claim got delayed a little by trying to work out whether it was possible to just replace the frameset or the whole bike but giant/liv don't do framesets for my bike (even though they do for the men's equivalent) so a whole new bike it is.

    Let's be very clear here,

first, the BC 3rd party cover was a discussion which I got clarified direct with BC.
second, I am not claiming against any persons. I took out and paid for cycle insurance for this very kind of reason.
next, I was asking about parts as i'd rather not see things go into a landfill.

Anyway I spoke to insurance company to ask them, they said its assigned to a salvage company and I can discuss options with them directly.

Glad you also have a solution, its good to see the premiums we pay do have value.
