Apex vs Rival brakes question

Hi folks just quick question . I own a van Nicolas with an apex group set. I have just been given a set of new Rival brakes. I have looked at them and weighed them and they seem the same. Are there any differences ? and is it a worth while upgrade ? Would be grateful for any comments.

    It's the same basic caliper design. I'm not able to detect any difference whatsoever between my Force and Rival brakes, if that helps. I suspect the differences between Apex and Rival will be similarly hard to identify..
