First geared bike for 12 year olds.

Hi, I have been out the cycling loop for quite a few years now and am looking for some up to date info. The kids have been pootling about on bmxs up til now, but are wanting a first geared bike, probably either mtb or hybrid, as that would suit the rides we are likely to go on. Cost is a large factor as my twin boys double up the cost of all large purchases like this.

I'm wondering what's about these days, which brands to look at, which sites have the best past season deals, and any other relevant info. Thanks in advance for any help.

    12 isn't really 'kid' IMO. I'd be looking at adult bikes in small sizes.

    That's what I was meaning really. Didn't know how the forum sections worked though. I'll delete this if it's in the wrong section.
