Hi Guys, new to the forum, looking forward to getting involved.

Looking at buying my first bike in 10+ years, it will be used for some newbie friendly trials and some family days out! I'm really stuck between the 2 below, to me the cube seems a better spec?

Any help would me much appreciated!

Out of these two the Cube is a better specced bike, I wouldn't buy it though as there are better options for the money though. Check out Vitus Nucleus:

There are other few spec options but this would be better for trail riding due to more trail focused frame geometry.

Have a look on Pauls Cycles if you still want the Cube as these are heavily discounted there.

    Other obvious options
Calibre line 10 from Go Outdoors
    Vooodoo Bizango from Halfords
Pinnacle from Evans specced well for the money too.

As above - the Cube has a better spec with the XT rear derailluer.

I've had 5 Rockhoppers and really liked them but the value for money (VFM) isn't as good anymore. There are other brands that offer better spec for your £££'s.

As Mark said, there are some other brands worth looking at. The Vitus get good reviews and the spec is much the same as the Spesh, for less money.

Boardman on offer looks good for the money as well.

If you join British Cycling for £25 you get an extra 10% off.

Never has shopping for bikes been so complicated!

Thanks guys, a friend of mine works at hargroves and is able to get me a fairy nice discount with a few extras thrown in!

Would like to buy from them really, just stumbled across the Scott Aspect 740, nice looking bike just doesn't seem as good a spec as others.

    Thanks again, much appreciated

If you can stretch your budget a fraction, and the smaller size fits, then the Genesis Core 30 is the stand out bike at this price at Hargroves:
