Edge 500 - pairs with random sensors on rides....

So, I've had a hand me down Edge 500 for a few years, basically very happy with it, but I've noticed that if I'm riding without my power meter (ie on a different bike) or if I'm not wearing my HR strap (mine is kaput at the mo, another on order!) then if I happen to bump into someone else wearing a HR strap or using a power meter out and about, it'll start reporting their data to me (and more annoyingly, log it as my own - usually including a whole bunch of zeroes when we part ways).

I know that I could dive into the settings and change bike profile or turn off the HR sensor, I'm more curious, do other people get the same behaviour, or is mine actually broken?

I'm running the latest/last firmware release, 3.30.

    That seems odd.

I have to tell my 500 which bike I am on or it doesn't detect sensors. F/X if I am on my winter bike, I have to tell it I am on my winter bike or it doesn't pick up my speed sensor, and vice versa for my summer bike. I've never had it detect a sensor without putting into search mode or once I reset it by accident and then it picked up my ride mate's sensor.

I suppose I could just try some kind of full reset, but I fear it's of an age where the patient might not survive the operation.

I have a 500 and so does my friend who I cycle with. While we where in the café having coffee and cake, his machine must have picked up a signal from mine as some of his stats. when we got home were mine. It also gave him KOM on Gold Hill, Shaftesbury - while we were in the café.
    Easiest KOM he's ever had.
