First hybrid - Trek FX3 vs Specialised Sirrus Sport

Hi

About to buy my first hybrid to commute to work (10 mile round journey) so looking to get a decent bike through our cycle to work scheme. Looking for a light bike with hydraulic disc brakes and a carbon fork and have narrowed it down to one of these two. The Specialised is a little more expensive compared to the Trek but has smooth welds and internal cable routing. Probably sounds silly but I haven’t bought a bike for 17 years and kind of assumed they would all have these features now! For this reason alone I am favouring the Specialised. My plan is to test ride both and just get the one that feels best, but I’m not an expert on these things. Is there anything that would make people favour one over the other ie is one known to be the best hybrid or is one particularly slow or anything like that?

Cheers

Giant Escape 1 disc? Seems better from reviews and it was the bike I was going to go for before I stretched my budget a little to get the Boardman hyb 8.8.

Although the Trek fx 3 does look excellent also, but I would avoid the Specialized sirrus sport, you can get better at that price point despite its popularity.

My wife had a Sirrus - we sold it so she could get a step through frame - she's missing her Sirrus - it wasn't a high spec model by any means - but she liked that bike.

Try them - get the one that fits you best and you best like the look of. No point buying the "highest spec for least money" if you don't enjoy riding it.

Cheers. I looked at the Giant and discounted it due to not having a carbon fork. I also saw a review that said it was heavy!

Interesting about the Specialised - I saw a review that was 3/5 and made it sound very average. Not seen any bad reviews of the Trek yet!

Tried both these bikes over the weekend. Specialised first.....felt really good, would be happy to buy this. Then tried the Trek, just felt lighter, faster......ticked more boxes. I’ve ordered the Trek!

The only thing I’m stewing on a bit is the sizing. I tested a 20” and it felt fine and the bike shop guy said it was probably right for me (I’m 5’ 8” tall). However, when I later checked the sizing information for the FX3, I’m kind I’d slap bang in the middle for a 17.5” frame, and at the very bottom of the range for a 20”. Bit annoying really.....I’m going to have to search around other stores to see if anyone has a 17.5 in stock that I could try out.

    excellent - see - worth trying ...

and worth trying the smaller frame - easier to put on longer stem and raise the seat ...

Thought it worth posting, in case it helps anyone else out, that I have in the end ordered the larger (20”) frame size. Tried them both out and the smaller bike made me feel too cramped, the bars were too narrow, my body generally felt a bit too scrunched up and after just a short ride it was clear that my weight wasn’t distributing too well as there was a significant amount of discomfort on the bones in my backside! The larger bike just felt more relaxed and a better fit overall without feeling ‘big’.

The guy in the shop reckoned a lot of people go up a size with hybrids which may or may not be true, but given that it’s a road commuter I’m less concerned about it being a bit bigger than if I was throwing it around trails.

I've got a Cycle to Work voucher for £720.Am now convinced the Trek FX 3 is winning the battle but am just worried about frame size as I am 5" 10'.
