Just got a used 2016 Altitude 730msl and the previous owner seemed to have downgraded the rear shock to a rp23. Anyways, I'm looking to buy a new one but I'm not sure what size I need. The Rocky mountain website doesn't seem to have anything on the matter and I can't seem to find a size anywhere on the shock itself. Is the only way to find it measuring the shock itself?

Yes. Measure distance between the eyelets then release the air to measure distance between the eyelets with shock compressed. Subtract both figures to give travel.

Then look for shock with the same spec and one that has appropriate bushes to fit your frame.

BTW rp23 is a good shock, unless it is faulty, I'd leave it alone.

Thanks for the info. It's not faulty but it just feels kinda weird to have like a 2011 shock on a 2016 bike. Isn't it kinda outdated at this point?

Spoked bicycle wheel was invented in 1870s yet we still used them.

If the shock works, then don't worry about the age, I doubt it differs much from a 2018 model.

A high end 2011 shock is better than a low end 2016 shock.....that said the Float DPS isn't a low end one!
