Hello

I'm cycling to Hebden Bridge from Sheffield in a few weeks and was wondering if anyone had advice on routes to keep me off the busy roads. I'll be cycling back as well and i would like to do a round trip if possible.

Try using the excellent cycle.travel.com route planner. It will produce a very quiet scenic route. You can use it to print out the route directions and also to upload a gpx file for a GPS device.
  • Did you find a suitable route? I'm doing either one of these next weekend, depending on the weather:

    (all tarmac)

    https://ridewithgps.com/routes/27652938
(mixed surfaces inc. a long section of the Upper Don cycle trail)

Both go through the centre of Sheffield making the most of quiet streets and cycle lanes.

To get to Hebden from the end you'd keep following the road to Norland, then drop down (steep!) into Sowerby Bridge to pick up NCR66 which takes you along the Calder valley to HB, or you could ride beside the canal. Or you could take the A646, but its very busy and I've never been a fan of cycling on that road.

I used cyclestreets.net to plot these two, though also recommend cycle.travel
