I may have the opportunity to splash out on a new road bike this summer and I've always wanted a power meter to play with too. What are the pros and cons of combining the purchase (never having heard of anyone who got both together)?

Pro - you may get a bit of money off
Con - you'll be limited in choice to what the shop sell

Just make sure that whatever is replaced comes to you as a spare part - eg left crank ...

You could get a pedal based meter since chances are your new bike isn't going to come with pedals anyway? If you shop around you can get the single sided Vector 3 for about £450, but they're like hens teeth at the moment.

if they're building to order, you can always buy it separately and give to them to fit

Thanks, sounds obvious but I hadn't thought of it.

    What about this one?

(or one of the other ratios 52/36 or 50/34) - current bike is 50/34 (Roux Vercors R3)

If you're just starting to look at powermeters then have a look here:

No idea why anyone would buy a Shimano one like the one you linked to though. They offer nothing over other options and are extortionate.

I'm hoping these guys beat the 99% chance of kickstarter failure and come through:

OK I've taken the splash and ordered the Stages dual sided Ultegra and an Emonda SL6 to go with it. Now looking forward to endless hours of number crunching fun :-) (and some nice riding too).
