bike fit- Reach

I have a quick question about 'reach'.

On a long ride recently I found often I was sitting forward in the saddle while holding onto the hoods- and had to push myself back so my bum was on the rear of the saddle. Towards the end also my lower back started to ache.

On reading round it would appear that this is down to reach? My bike is stock currently so has a 120mm stem on it. I found it most comfortable with my hands where the bars curve to go towards the hoods. So I am thinking of buying a 90mm stem.

Anyone got any input or do you think a 90mm would be too close?

Diagnosing fit on the internet is going to be impossible without pics of you on the bike - preferably side-on..

Have you tried moving the saddle backwards?

Your behind is trying to currently find a position on the saddle that feels more comfy for it, which is currently forward of where you sit early on in rides, but at the expense of hurting your lower back.

You can use this method to find your reach: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkzUe64YhOM
He has a bike fit playlist which I would recommend watching as it's easy to understand with the way he explains bike fitting. There is also a balance test you can do on the bike: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyE67jKp1To to improve your fit.
