Hi,

New here so please be gentle.

I have the task of replacing the front and rear derailleur on a Carrera Vengence. Both are broken and lost...Don't ask.

I believe the front was a Tourney FD-TY700 with 34.9mm clamp and the rear was an Altus 8 speed.

What can I replace these with that are readily available...

What is the difference between the TY700 and the TY510

Cheers....I'm sure there will be more questions soon!!

CRAIG

Any front mech with the same pull, swing and clamp size. Many come with shims for different size seat tubes.

Any Shimano 8 or 9 speed rear mech, long cage.

Forget Tourney, go with Deore as a minimum.

    Cheers,

Are they all pretty compatible as long as they are 8 speed and long cage, and tripple up front with the correct clamp size.

    Why mix ALTUS with Tourney??

All Shimano 7, 8 or 9 speed MTB rear mechs have the same cable pull, so any will work. Front can be Shimano or Sram. Cable pull is the same.

Mixing bits is just based on cost. Tourney is cheap and not very good, Altus is better. Deore and upwards (SLX, XT) is better than that. They all work together though.

O.K. it is all making a little more sense now.

What about the cage length and jockey wheel size....what should I be looking out for?

The rear is 32-12 8 speed and he front is triple 42-32-24

    Cheers

Jockey wheel size is standard on mega9 which is what you want.

Look for long cage mech for that - possibly labeled GS

All Shimano 9spd stuff is labeled mega9 and works together. It will also work with your 8 spd setup as CD mentions above.

On a HT it's usually the bottle holder bolts which determine what you use, now they tend to pull from both ways.

O.K. , I’ve had a rummage and found two serviceable rear derailleur.

    1. Shimano RD2300
    2. Shimano RD-M530

Are either of these compatible with a mountain bike running a triple up front 42-32-24

And an 8 speed rear running 32-13

    Cheers
