I have just gone to a 2x10 setup on my hardtail from a 3x9. Everything is new xt with a kmc chain. Got the gears shifting no problem in both rings but when i use the small ring if i put any real pressure on like going up a hill it makes lots of noise like its not adjusted correctly. The big ring is fine in the same situation. Put it on the stand and its all ok its only when you put any load on it. Any ideas ?

Is the chain rubbing or run close to the front mech

There seems plenty of clearance on the front mech in the small ring. If anything it catches a bit on the big one.! :? Im going to have to strip it all down and check everything again i think.

Maybe the indexing is just a tiny bit out and you can do the adjustment on the run - if the barell screw is on the shifter. Also give the cable a pull it may be stretching as it is bedding in to the tension when shifting up. You may have to maje a final adjustment after doing this.

Check the chain line too. Going from three to two rings may require a spacer on the bb.

Verify your indexing by having a look at a few of the utube vids.

    Good luck.
