When it's their birthday or they live on the race route

....do pro's these days still get the ok to go up the road, ahead of the peleton a bit to greet their family friends blah blah....and then rejoin the race. Seemed to be the done thing back in the day but never see/hear of it now?

    still goes on but depends on how the race is going at the time.. if they live 50 yards from the finish line then no :D if the race is on and they are chasing down a break then no.. if its at the start of a stage \ race then it does still happen
