Ciao
MF is wondering if anyone knows of a good BBright to GXP adaptor so he can run a normal threaded GXP bottom bracket and FSA SL-K cranks on his Cervelo.
He is utterly confused by BB30 BBright and all of it.
Many thanks
MF

This might help. Chart from C-Bear giving adaptors for various conversions
https://www.c-bear.com/bbchart.pdf
Looks like you need the BBR-GXP-R to convert BBright to GXP
Not cheap tho at Euro 129

cheers dude. its a massive PITA. Accatastically rubbish.
he understands neither the point nor the application of all the bb standards.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

Not sure you'd actually be able to run a GXP threaded BB on a BBRight frame, although I thought Cervelos are BB30? Best you'll get is a pressfit BB that's suitable for the GXP-compatible crank axle0
-
Having said that, this look like it might do the trick. Whatever you get you'll need to make sure it's MegaExo though, not GXP, as that's FSA's "standard".0

grazie!
see, this is where he gets confused.
he saw those and thought spot on then checked the s5 specs and it says BBright. Are BB30 and B Bright basically the same thing? BBright has a funy length thinv gping on but will BB30 adaptors work?
Cervelo forum is full of indecipherable trash on this subject.

I see that BBRight is Cervelo's standard (I thought it was Rotor's) so the frame might actually be BBRight after all. Both are aimed at 30mm crank axle diameters, although the BB shell widths are different (BBRight is wider). This means that a BB30 crankset won't fit a BBRight BB as the axle isn't long enough. The 24mm axle diameter cranks - GXP (SRAM), MegaExo (FSA), Hollowtech II (Shimano) - are long enough for BBRight (and BB30) but you need a BB with a 24mm opening. You have to get crank spec speficic BBs though as there's some variation between the 3 24mm options - I believe GXP is actually tapered, so 24mm on one side and 22mm on the other.
At least, this is my understanding, gleaned from internet searches, and I'm not 100% certain I have it completely correct. I found both of the following links useful:
BB standards (Park Tool)
BB Standards (BikeRadar)0 -

Its a bloody nightmare!
MF is thinking of braving the potential dreaded creaky bb situation and getting a BBright (ie Rotor) compatible chainset and using the supplied BBright bb.
Its an utter fag though and he personally can't see why they have done this.
Thank you very much for all your help - very much appreciated.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

I fitted a GXP Quarq chainset to a BBRight frame (Cervelo R5j using a Wheels Manufacturing adaptor. Nicely made, a bit tricky to fit (some measurement needed, and shimming) but it’s a ‘fit once only’ arrangement, if bearings wear out, leave adaptor in situ and simply replace bearings. Very pleased with it, working well. No creaking.

BBRight uses same bearings as BB30 but the B.B. shell is wider, 89mm (from memory) v 68mm, and offset, the extra width is on the Non-drive side.0 -
I have a Wheels Mfg BBright to 24mm bottom bracket on my R3 and it works a treat. The cups are pressfit into the BB shell, but the BB threads together in the centre to creat a very firm (and creakless) hold. I seem to recall they also do BBright to GXP, amongst others. I think they're about £50 for the steel bearings and >£100 for the ceramic option.

Also worth noting that some of the new Cevelo's are fitted with BBB BottomFit Brackets, which the allow them to spec a full Shimano groupset inc crank. I would imagine BBB do a similar GXP version.

thank you very much for all the replies.
mf is going for the BBright b/b with a Shimano downsizing shim to bring it down to 24mm and therefore can use his preferred cranks.
this should be ordered sometime around next March.
ta muchly again for all your help.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am
