Bottom bracket help!

Hi. Just been overhauling my old 2012 Boardman hybrid comp. The forum has been a great help but I'm now a bit stuck. Finally removed the old rusted bottom bracket, after a ton of effort, and its a FSA BB8420 BC1.37 x 24T 68.
I have a spare Shimano 105 5800 crankset I would like to put on this bike but not sure about 2 things.
1. Will an 11 spd crankset work with a 9 spd chain and cassette?
2. If so, which new bottom bracket will let me fit this?
3. If not, can someone suggest a good 9spd bottom bracket and crankset combination. Something decent but cheapest. This bike is just for commuting. Have another bike for proper rides.
Thanks.

I can't see why the chainset wouldn't work. And your description of the old BB suggests it's a standard BS threaded affair, so any Shimano English thread Hollowtech road BB would do.

Looks like it will work from the below based on on a 9 speed system, but may not be ideal in a small-small combination.

The BB you are after is a Hollowtech II, with an English thread. You can also get a Tiagra one for about £12.

Grease the threads to stop it seizing up.
  • Great news!
Ordered the BB from wiggle. Thanks guys!
