Froome didn't look that far away from Aru, Pinot, Dumoulin. But I could be wrong.0

kreuzinger apparently but that cant be right either?"If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. What we're witnessing here is the world's most high profile mid-life crisis" Afx237vi Mon Jul 20, 2009 2:43 pm0 -

I'm convinced he hasn't arrived on peak form. I'm not convinced it isn't part of a Giro/Tour double strategy.0 -

Do riders still ride themselves into form?
I thought modern consensus was if you're unfit going in, you'll go deeper than if you're in form going in??0 -

Sure, but I think he would rather win the tour than the giro, so should be expected to not be at 100%. Alternatively he is missing his inhaler or his foot hurts.0 -
The real question is on which stage can he abandon and not have the organisers feel he took the p!ss.
I don't think riding out the full 3 weeks without a win to tilt at would be worth the risk to the Tour.0 -

The general consensus is that last year he went into the Tour undercooked to allow him to keep form for the Vuelta. He might have done the same here, though it's a bigger gamble, IMHO.
It's so early in the race to write him off though, even if he's got some ground to make up.It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -

I've absolutely written him off.
He's lost 40 and 20 secs on terrain you would expect him to lose none.0 -

It's a very thin market.0 -
Did Froome just drop back or get caught behind the crashes and chase back? It was hard to tell what was going on with the narrow twisty roads.0

Are the official results in yet? Sky Twitter saying 22 seconds back from Wellens, but no indication that he lost time on Dumoulin.0
-
Wouldn't be surprised if Froome has come into the start of the Giro undercooked. Especially if he has the Giro-Tour double in mind. In previous years he hasn't used the Dauphine in the same way that other Tour riders did.
That said he is due an illness/injury so I also wouldn't be surprised if he leaves the race at some point.0 -

They had the top 10 on GC on screen during coverage. Dumoulin came in with the main group.@ 4s. So 18s ahead of froome.Team My Man 2018: David gaudu, Pierre Latour, Romain Bardet, Thibaut pinot, Alexandre Geniez, Florian Senechal, Warren Barguil, Benoit Cosnefroy0
