Small sprocket rear won't engage

I have a trek madone ultegra throughout
When I attempt to engage smallest gear at rear it just sit there for a minute or so then drops in lovely. When i put bike on stand no issue. At all if I stop pedalling before shifting to smallest sprocket shift to smallest sprocket then pedal . Again it drops in no issue.
Please help . Mick

Half turn of the rear barrel adjuster should sort it.0
