Marin Palisades Trail +AHT.01.3 Rebuild

I've just very kindly been given a Marin Palisades Trail +AHT.01.3 which needs a fair bit of work done on it.
As always I didn't quiet realise how much work was needed until I started stripping it down, much of it is going to need replacing to get it back on the road. I was wondering how much time & money would be wise to invest until I've gone too far with it. I'm also struggling to find any information on the model to help with this decision, if anyone can help (from the photos below) i'd greatly appreciate it.

So far I'm thinking of:
1)Getting the frame stripped and repainted (it's scratched pretty badly and I'm hoping it's only cosmetic)
2)Replacing gear shifters (one is broken)
3)Replacing brake levers (again one broken), brake calipers (seized), brake rotors (very worn)
4)Replacing wheel hubs (both heavily worn in bearing cups)
5)New saddle, bar grips, gear & brake cables... and hopefully that's it!
Although I still need to look properly at the headset, forks and crankset :?

Photos were displayed yesterday.
The bike frame and forks appear to be nothing special, probably low to mid range hence I advise to not spend too mue, just replace worn and faulty parts with good used ones off ebay.
Aluminum frames so no need to worry about rust due to scratches, leave as is or paint cheaply using cans.0 -
Thanks for getting back so quickly. I'll keep the cost down to a minimum then I guess. Just get it out on the road asap0

Ok so after a manic few weeks at work I'm now back to getting the bike up and running.
The frame has been tarted up in the meantime with a new paint job and decals (didn't need doing really but it felt like progress was being made while I was busy) and gets picked up later this week!!
I've ordered various bits and bobs over the past few weeks (bar grips, brakes, seat etc.) but I'm waiting on the frame before I start assembling. Anyway I'm now at a point where I could do with some advice as I'm feeling well out of my depth, the more I read the more confused I feel and it's all due to groupsets...
So currently the build has:
ISIS Drive MB603 bottom bracket
Truvativ Trushift AL-7075-T6 (3 rings 44/32/22)
Shimano / generic cassette (9 speed 44/11)
Shimano Deore front and rear derailleurs
Shimano Deore gear shifters
After inspection the bottom bracket is well past it's best, both gear shifters are broken and the crank ring teeth look very worn with some damaged.
So where should I start? There are so many different manufacturers with so many different sets I'm pretty bewildered. I guess I'm looking to replace these parts with new and am willing to pay high bottom range to low mid range. Will / should I be able to still use the parts that seem in decent condition from the original (derailleurs and rear cassette). Should I be looking at changing to a 2x10 set up?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.0 -
You may be able to use the derailers, but I'd definitely get a new cassette to go with new rings and new chain.
If you want to keep the 3x system, then on a budget:

9 speed cassette and chain deals can be had for about £30 from many places.
Shifters:

Or consider a 1x system:

Though this will up the price.0
