Wanting a cross bike, rim brake options disappearing

I'd like basically an "acceptable" new or used cross bike with rim brakes. Why? I'd like to be able to swap my road wheelset over to ride road in the off season and totally shelve the carbon aero fancy thing.

Or leave the fancy bike setup for time trial in off season and ride the cross bike for road and cross.

I'm having a hard time finding Shimano 5800/6800 stuff NEW with rim brakes. Plenty of Tiagra/Sora stuff. Some used stuff obviously.

What are NEW options for 5800 and rim brake for something along the lines of a Boone/Crockett/TCX?

    FSA crankset, though.

Or you could purchase a Trigon (Taiwan) frameset from Czech and build it up:-

Or similar with a pricier Alan frameset from Italy.

I do the same with my ridley x bow got 32mm slicks on it for road.

Shame theres not many options nowadays.

Maybe one of thoose china carbon ebay framesets?

Are the pros on 100% disc now?

4700 is a good groupset though apart from the weight penalty, 10 speed or 8, 9 speed cassetes deal better with mud in racing than 11 if you don't have a pit bike.

I can always swap the cassette off my 11spd road wheels for the 10spd with the required spacer and just buy a used 10spd.

Hmmm, that may be the best option here.

    burnthesheep,

I am looking to sell my Trek Crockett Framset 56cm shortly in the For Sale Part of the Forum. The Frameset is the PINK 2016 model which built up into a really good bike. I'm only getting rid as I wanted something with dedicated Mudguard mounts and Discs.

I sent a PM explaining a few things, but not sure it sent properly as it has not been placed in saved messages or the outbox. Here's some pics, PM me if interested.

Go second hand. I've got 2 canti CX bikes and both were absolute bargains because of the rims brakes.
