Lifeline Airblast floor pump

Is it normal for this floor pump to blast air when using it as a normal pump (instead of using the air tank) when removing the hose from the valve? Also do you have to lock the mechanism or is that only for when seating tubeless tires?

    I bought one of these last week from Wiggle. Seated some tubeless cross tyres instantly but I ended up using my old track pump to inflate after adding the sealant. I need to experiment a little perhaps but first impression is that the tank/air blast element is good but it’s a bit rubbish as a normal pump.

    Rubbish for what reason? Seems to pump easier than my other pump but I was wondering if it's normal that it blasts all the air out when removing it from the valve, it's like it saves it on the tank while pumping normally?

    Edit: After pumping normally before removing it from the valve I switched the lever to tank and it doesn't blast the air although not sure if it's needed.
