Probably buying Voodoo Marasa

Hey there, over the last few weeks I've been debating on what hybrid to get and I've narrowed it down to the Marasa.
I wish to use it for a short commute and leisure use. It would would be for road and the occasional bridleway now and then.
From some comments on the forums it's probably best to change the tyres as the stock tyres aren't considered all that great? What would you recommend? And any other changes you would recommend too?

The stock tyres are OK but pretty heavy, I'd certainly consider changing the tyres for soemthing not only lighter but also tailored to your use. My Nephew used 32mm road tyres for long road rides keeping the originals for off road and then switched to a light duty MTB tyre once they were past their best on his.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Gotcha cheers. I just noticed today that the offers have changed. It's back to £400 now and the Agwe is down to £400 from £500. Is the Agwe any good for the price or just wait for the Marasa to go back on offer? How often does Halfords cycle their offers?0

The agwe is a little bit better, it's a smidge lighter and and the gears are marginally better, but there's not a huge amount in it. Other than that they are basically the same. I think it's probably worth 400,i wouldn't pay 500 for it.
The marasa has a nicer paint job if you ask me. But likewise, it's a bit steep at 400, 350 is about right.
So I'd grab the agwe at 400,or wait /hope the marasa comes back on offer.0 -
Okay I don't think I can wait for the Marasa to go back on offer, it might be 4+ weeks until then.
I've made a reservation for the Agwe which I'm picking up on Sunday. Is the slime solution for the tyres any good with halfords or is it best without?
(Just after the thread was created I sent a message to the board admin to move the thread to buying advise as I noticed there's a lot more activity there but nothing has been done.. :?)0 -
I'm guessing the 'slime solution' will just be replacing the standard inner tubes with slime tubes or similar, rather than being properly tubeless.
It'll seal small punctures but it doesn't negate the need to carry a spare tube /puncture kit just in case.
Difficult to suggest on that one really.0 -
Just looking at the bike specs again, the gears on the agwe do look better, they are higher spec and the simplicity of 1x10 is quite nice too, that's probably where the weight savings came from, single front ring and one less shifter and cable. It's basically a more refined version of the marasa.0
