Raceware Di2 spacer mount

So I've never liked the little rubber strap that attaches your Di2 charging junction box to your stem. Looked a bit Heath Robinson against that cutting edge technology... I like the look of the bar end charging port but couldn't afford new bars, so started looking around for alternatives.

The issue was I have a Pinarello with the aero stem and spacers and nothing seemed to fit. I saw Raceware Direct made a Di2 stem mount for normal (round) spacers, so I contacted them to see what they could do.
They were very helpful and actually made a prototype just for me! Once I'd ok'd the design, they made it and sent it to me. Cost? £15 plus £2p&p. Not bad. Its really well made and is an excellent fit for the junction box.
I thought I would show you some pictures of before and after:

I'm really pleased with the way it tidies up the front end a bit.
And to be clear, I have absolutely no affiliation with Raceware and I am not being paid to promote this, just thought it might be a solution other Pinarello riders may want to explore? Contact them direct if you're interested in one.

got ne of those for a generic stem, on the BMC, and have to say its a fairly clever idea.0
-
Very useful to add another spacer to that tower.0
-
Cue Sloppy S to make some cutting comments about the stack height/number of spacers/Pinarello etc etc..
Edit - I think Shirley has beaten Sloppy to it!0 -
I bought one and have to say I actually think they look even worse than the rubber strap option. Mine was forever getting pushed sideways out of line with the stem and I would have liked it to sit flush with the underside of the stem but the angles of each item wouldn't allow that. Thought it was very expensive for what it is too.argon 18 e116 2013 Vision Metron 80

Yeah, I did hesitate a little before posting knowing what Shirley and Sloppy S are like (never a good word  ) And yes I have a few spacers under my stem. I’ve also had a proper bike fit and this is the most comfortable position for me, and I want to be comfortable whilst doing my hobby which is riding my bikes. I’m not a pro, nor a wannabe pro so therefore don’t need a slammed stem.
I just thought it might be useful for those with a Pinarello aero stem who wanted to lose the rubber strap thingy. In terms of the angle etc, Raceware will make it with any positive or negative rise you want. And this one also comes with the little stubs that fit into the corresponding holes in the spacers so it can’t “slip round”.
Anyway, hey ho.....0 -
My Aeroad has the aerocockpit with the Di2 box integrated.
Bit of a faff charging but not the end of the world
Do you actually think that mount improves the look?I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0 -
However hard I try, I can't pretend to like lots of spacers regardless of how well a bike fits.
My friend rides an s5 with a huge stack and he can rip my legs off on the road with ease but unfortunately there is no escaping how dreadful it looks.0 -
I think it looks better than the rubber strap, yes.0

This is your bike, right Sloppy?
How would you react were someone to negatively comment on the huge saddle bag you have strapped to your seat? Or the fact you need two bidons? Which don’t match! Or the rear light on your seatpost? Or what looks in the picture like an Ass Saver mudguard? All things I’m sure you find useful and necessary to improve your enjoyment of cycling....
So why so critical of others?0 -
And better than both the rubber strap and that big lump of plastic is to buy a packet of black Sugru, disconnect the Junction A from its mount, clean the surface of the mount and the bottom of the stem with a little alcohol wipe and roll a blob of Sugru into a ball and stick the mount on with that. Push it well down to seat and scrape the oozed out excess from the edges off to clean up. Allow to cure before refitting your Junction A and hey presto a clean, neat well secured Junction A. Sugru is mouldable rubber that sets to form a rubber that will adhere items together. The other good thing is that it can always be removed fairly easily if the need ever arises.
I have two bikes with Junction As mounted this way and they have been spot on, no failures in over two years of use.

When doing climbs in a precipitous country like Colombia where carrying a bit of extra kit is probably a really good idea.0 -
There you go;
The black band around the stem is the Fizik paint, not a strap...
Sugru is mouldable, and you can smooth it with a wet finger to get a clean finish. It has many uses, even on your bike. I have used it to make custom plugs for cable holes, custom light mounts (you know when the supplied rubber insert for your rear light just doesn’t mate with your seatpost/ seat stay shape?), and for mounting Garmin cadence sensors on the inside of non-drive side crank arms. I even used it to repair the plastic mount which had worn through my rear mudguard on the winter bike - removed the clip on mount from the guard which had worn away the edges of the guard, cleaned it all up and then made a custom pad of Sugru between the mount and the guard which stuck it back on in the right place so it became rattle free.
Much better than cable ties or rubber straps around everything.

I have Di2 junction box mounted same as yours was and to be honest I don't find it a problem. However, I appreciate the time and effort you have gone into to write up and post this so thanks anyway. I too have a small saddle bag and on hot days ride with two bidons and in the winter a rear light. Do I care what others think - I think we know the answer to that....0 -

Well no, to him a problem did exist, one of aesthetics. He solved it by getting new Di2 mount. I think those with Di2 should appreciate his efforts even if we may not require a new mount.0 -

Thank you Surfer - for that is the only reason I originally posted0 -
Yep, Sugru is by far the tidiest solution and what I adopted on one of my bikes with that particular junction EW90 box.
Other bike has the newer bar end junction, which despite looking neater than them all, I've found isn't as practical as the EW90- the program/ adjust button is tiny, and is hard to depress on-the-fly should small trimming adjustments be necessary, or I want to toggle between normal/ synchro modes.0 -

Why not position it directly underneath the stem instead of having a spacer then the Raceware will look even more stealth. just an idea , I run mine like that just an idea.

I just used an O-ring to strap mine under my K-edge Garmin mount, right under the computer.0
