8 speed rear derailleurs - can I use any?

Hi there,

Have 8 speed rear shimano tiagra derailleur and half of it has come off on a ride and couldn't find it. Was advised at shop that shimano don't make 8 speed tiagra derailleurs anymore... Am I okay to use any shimano rear derailleur providing it is 8/9 speed?

Any help would be appreciated.

    Yes, any 8 or 9 speed will work, as would 10 speed 105 or ultegra. 10 speed Tiagra no good as they changed the cable pull
