Spare Wheels, what else?

So I’m thinking of getting some spare wheels so I can quickly change from commuting to trail riding. Do I need to get new chain and new cassette when I change them, so things wear evenly?

If they're of a similar age (newish) then they can wear in together.

If you let the chain stretch too much then wear will accelerate.
It would be cheaper and easier to find tyres for both terrains.

I was thinking this, but I’m getting punctures so was probably going tubeless

Your plan is good, best get same hubs or you may find the position of the brake disc may nor be in exactly the same position requiring adjustment of brake calliper. The same for rear to avoid tweaking rear mech end stops.

Buy a chain wear gauge and your cassettes will work fine if you replace at. 75%.
