Hi, currently i own CAAD12 2017 with BB30A bottom bracket

from what i understand if i want to use shimano crankset on my CAAD i have to either buy a new bottom bracket that will fit shimano crankset or use adapter to allow shimano crankset go into default bb30a of caad

the question is then, which one should i do?

Assuming you are keeping the CAAD frame and want to use a Shimano chainset, then an adaptor will be your only option. The adaptor is effectively a new BB in itself.

so if i want to use that adapter, i have to remove the original BB of my CAAD?

That particular one may just fit into the existing BB, not sure..
  • You'll have to remove exiting bearings to fit new bearings.

    Any reason for changing chainset?
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles

for now i have no reason for changing chainset, my question was just a "what if" question :)

I’ve done the exact thing on my caad 12 running the new ultegra . It’s sweet as a nut

I've never found an adapter to be as good as using the correct BB. If you can't find a BB to fit, I'd go for a different crankset that does have a compatible BB.

The adapter you've listed just pushes into the existing bearings as far as I know. I was in a similar position building a Synapse and I had to get a C-Bear BB.

When the original BB30a on my Synapse started creaking after 2000ish miles, I used it as an excuse to fit a C-Bear BB and Ultegra 6800 crankset. Touch wood, 3000ish miles later and everything is still fine (and quiet). It certainly felt like a well engineered bit of kit out of the box and C-Bear were a pleasure to deal with. IIRC, it wasn't cheap at around £100 but worth it in my opinion.

so i think it would be better for long term to have a new BB instead of using adapter

thanks all for the opinion and the discussion :)
