    Thanks guys. Right, I went out and purchased the Magic Marys before I read the updated suggestions on here about them not being very good for roads. The guy I purchased them from (had a real passion for his work) said likewise and suggested Schwalbe Smart Sam were more suited. The one thing I can say, however, is that even the cycle lanes near to where I live are like off-road circuits, not to mention the potholes. Only time will tell.

    If you haven’t fitted the Magic Marys yet take them back to the shop and exchange them for some more suitable tyres.
    MM’s are far too draggy for your intended use and will be awful.
    Something like a Rocket Ron or Maxxis Cross Mark would be good if you want to maintain some off-road usability. It is also pointless going any wider than 2.1 as you will gain no improvement in performance.
